BMW will not offer its compact X1 crossover in the United States until the end of 2012 because of strong demand for the redesigned version of the larger X3. Also, the X1 is selling well outside the United States so supplies are tight, said Jim O'Donnell, CEO of BMW of North America. The X1 was launched in Europe in November 2009.
And over on the Rinspeed stand at the 2012 Geneva motor show, you can expect to see the new Rinspeed Dock + Go, a Smart Fortwo with a new mobility concept. It adds a bespoke trailer to the Smart city car, letting customers drive into town two-up in the regular Smart, or go on a longer journey to the seaside with all the clobber (for two, no families allowed – unless the children can be flatpacked into the boot) stuffed into the trailer. The 2012 Audi S8 will get power from a Bentley V8
We reported back in October that Bentley and Audi were working on a new V8 that would power future models from both marques, and we asked if that would mean the end of the W12 in the Bentley. Because although it was claimed that the V8 being developed would be used as an entry-level lump for the Continental GT – a nod to more frugal times – we did think it likely it would be more than that.
